Summary

This study tests whether motivational interviewing—a supportive, client-centered conversation style—can reduce loneliness, improve daily living skills, and enhance quality of life in adults aged 65+ who live alone. Sixty participants will be randomly assigned to receive the interviews or standard care. Researchers will measure changes using standard questionnaires over the study period.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

motivational interviewing

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help older adults living alone feel less lonely and more independent.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is a conversation-based approach, not a medical treatment, so benefits may be modest.
