Dialysis Patients' heart risk: a new prediction model under study
NCT ID NCT07769190
First seen Aug 17, 2026 · Last updated Aug 18, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows adults receiving maintenance hemodialysis for end-stage kidney disease to develop a model that predicts the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Researchers will track routine lab results, including how often blood phosphate levels stay in a target range, and whether patients undergo parathyroidectomy. The goal is to identify factors linked to heart-related death and build a risk prediction tool for this population.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a practical tool that helps doctors identify hemodialysis patients at higher risk of cardiovascular death, potentially guiding earlier or more personalized care.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, so it cannot prove cause and effect. The prediction model may not be accurate for all patients, and results may not apply beyond this specific group.

Who is studied
The study population comprises adults aged 18 to 85 years who have received maintenance hemodialysis for at least 3 months at the Hemodialysis Center of Huashan Hospital, Fudan University. Participants are selected according to the prespecified eligibility criteria and are observed under routine clinical care without a study-assigned treatment.

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Receipt of maintenance hemodialysis for at least 3 months. 2. Adequate ability to understand the study and communicate with the investigators. 3. Provision of written informed consent. Exclusion Criteria: 1. Age younger than 18 years or older than 85 years. 2. Pregnancy or plans to become pregnant during the relevant study period. 3. Participation in another clinical research study within the preceding month. 4. Presence of a disease or clinical condition considered likely to materially affect serum phosphate concentrations. 5. Any other condition that, in the investigator's judgment, makes participation inappropriate.
