Common allergy pill tested to shield young Diabetics' hearts and kidneys

NCT ID NCT07409714

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether montelukast, a medication commonly used for asthma and allergies, can help protect the kidneys and blood vessels in teens and young adults with type 2 diabetes. Researchers believe diabetes causes inflammation that damages these organs, and this drug may block that process. The study will measure changes in kidney and blood vessel function in 50 participants over 6 months to see if the treatment is safe and shows promise for future care.
