New test combo could slash unnecessary antibiotics in sepsis

NCT ID NCT05909683

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests whether using rapid diagnostic tests (BCID2, Reveal Rapid AST, and PCT) can help doctors choose the right antibiotics faster for patients with severe infections (sepsis). About 190 adults in Greek ICUs will be randomly assigned to either the new test-guided approach or standard care. The goal is to reduce the number of days patients need broad-spectrum antibiotics, which may lower side effects and antibiotic resistance.
