Simple ratio may predict sepsis outcomes
NCT ID NCT07479563
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will check if a simple calculation called the Modified Shock Index (heart rate divided by mean arterial pressure) can predict how serious sepsis is in 70 adults coming to the emergency department. Researchers will see if a higher index is linked to needing ICU care, breathing machines, or longer hospital stays. The goal is to find a quick, cheap way to spot high-risk patients early.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could give doctors a quick, low-cost tool to identify high-risk sepsis patients early.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early observational study (70 people) that only looks at a measurement, not a treatment. The results may not apply to all sepsis patients.
