Can a phone app curb childhood obesity? new study tests digital coaching for parents
NCT ID NCT06520072
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested two mobile apps for parents of children aged 2 to 5. One app focused on nutrition, physical activity, and sleep; the other on reading. Researchers wanted to see if the apps could help parents encourage healthier habits and lower obesity risk. Over 200 parents in the U.S. took part, using the apps to set goals and track their child's behaviors.

- What this could lead to
- If effective, these apps could offer a simple, scalable way for parents to help their young children build healthier eating, activity, and sleep habits.
- What could go wrong
- This is a completed study, but results may not apply to all families. The apps rely on self-reported behaviors, and long-term impact on obesity is not yet proven.
