NCT ID NCT04893460

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested a mobile app designed to help adults quit smoking by creating a feeling of mental conflict, or cognitive dissonance, about their habit. 72 daily smokers used the app for 25 days, completing activities that highlighted the gap between their beliefs and their smoking behavior. The goal was to see if this approach was feasible and could reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day.
