First seen Jun 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at whether giving midazolam before surgery or during anesthesia works better for children having their tonsils removed. One hundred kids aged 3-10 will be randomly assigned to receive the drug either as a drink 30 minutes before surgery or through an IV during anesthesia. The researchers will measure stress hormones, anxiety, pain, and parent satisfaction to find the best approach.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Midazolam
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help doctors choose the best time to give midazolam to reduce stress and improve recovery in children having tonsil surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 children. The results may not apply to all kids or surgeries, and midazolam can cause drowsiness or breathing issues.
