Study probes hidden heart risks in women after gestational diabetes

NCT ID NCT06547619

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at why women who had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) may have higher heart disease risk years later. Researchers will test how a natural chemical called endothelin-1 affects small blood vessel function, and whether physical activity or sitting too much plays a role. About 40 women who had a healthy pregnancy or gestational diabetes within the last 5 years will take part. The goal is to understand the cause of lasting blood vessel problems, not to test a treatment.
