What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Metformin extended-release (Glucophage XR)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that extended-release metformin is safe and effective for controlling blood sugar in type 2 diabetes patients with mild to moderate kidney disease.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase study with only 12 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The main risks include lactic acidosis and kidney function changes.
