Diabetes drug gel takes on gum disease in new trial
NCT ID NCT07215156
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether a metformin gel or a chlorhexidine gel, placed directly into the gums after standard deep cleaning, can improve healing in people with moderate gum disease (Stage II, Grade B periodontitis). Sixty adults will be split into three groups: cleaning alone, cleaning plus metformin gel, or cleaning plus chlorhexidine gel. The researchers will measure gum health, inflammation, and bone density over six months to see which approach works best.
