Diabetes drug may shield pregnant women from dangerous blood pressure

Summary

This study tests whether the diabetes drug metformin can prevent preeclampsia (a serious high blood pressure condition) in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. About 60 women will take metformin daily before 20 weeks of pregnancy and be compared to those receiving usual care. The goal is to see if metformin reduces the rate of pregnancy-related high blood pressure disorders.
