First seen Dec 24, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tested whether two drugs, metformin (a diabetes medicine) and pirfenidone (an anti-scarring drug), can help treat oral submucous fibrosis, a condition that causes scarring and stiffness in the mouth. 45 adults with this condition took part in a randomized, double-blind trial. Researchers measured changes in mouth opening, burning pain, and molecular markers of fibrosis to see if the drugs could reduce scarring and improve symptoms.
