First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This pilot study tested whether metformin, a common diabetes drug, can reduce blood vessel damage and inflammation in the brain for people living with HIV who also have metabolic syndrome. Thirty adults on HIV treatment took metformin for 12 weeks, and researchers measured changes in brain blood flow and blood vessel function. The goal was to see if metformin could help prevent brain disease in this high-risk group.
