Could a diabetes drug and an antihistamine help repair MS nerve damage?

NCT ID NCT05131828

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether combining two common drugs—metformin (for diabetes) and clemastine (an antihistamine)—can help repair the protective lining around nerve cells in people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). The 70 participants continued their usual MS treatment while taking the drug combination or a placebo for 24 weeks. The goal was to see if the combination could improve nerve signaling and potentially slow or reverse disability.
