First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This pilot study looks at how the diabetes drug metformin gets into the lens of the eye and whether it can slow the growth of lens cells that cause cataracts. Researchers will measure metformin levels in lens capsules and blood from 40 diabetic patients having cataract surgery. The goal is to understand if metformin might help prevent or delay cataracts in people with type 2 diabetes.
