Can melatonin influence labor? new study investigates

NCT ID NCT05358834

First seen May 22, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether melatonin, a natural sleep hormone, can change how often the uterus contracts in full-term pregnant women. Researchers will give melatonin during the day (when levels are low) and use bright light at night (to lower natural melatonin) to see the effect. The goal is to understand how melatonin might play a role in labor timing. 120 healthy first-time mothers aged 18-35 will participate.
