First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study looked at how switching from a typical Western diet (low fiber, high fat) to a Mediterranean-like diet (lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains) affects the trillions of tiny organisms living in your gut. Healthy adults aged 18 to 60 ate either the Mediterranean diet for up to a year or switched between diets for a few weeks. Researchers collected blood, urine, and stool samples to track changes in gut bacteria, diet quality, and weight.
