Can music tame blood sugar and anxiety before surgery?
NCT ID NCT07770204
First seen Aug 18, 2026 · Last updated Aug 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether listening to meditation music before and after elective surgery can help adults with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar, feel less anxious, and sleep better. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either routine care plus self-selected meditation music or routine care alone. The study measures blood glucose levels, anxiety scores, and sleep quality to see if this simple, safe intervention makes a difference in surgical recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Meditation music delivered via headphones before and after elective surgery
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help people with type 2 diabetes manage blood sugar, anxiety, and sleep around surgery, potentially improving recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small trial, and results may not apply to everyone. The effect on blood sugar might be modest, and individual responses to music can vary.
