New device could spot chemo nerve damage early in kids

NCT ID NCT04786977

First seen Apr 12, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study aims to create a simple, objective tool to detect nerve damage caused by the chemotherapy drug vincristine in children and teens. By using a device that measures pupil reactions, researchers hope to catch nerve problems earlier than current methods allow. The study will enroll 40 children aged 6-18 who are receiving vincristine as part of their leukemia treatment. The goal is to help doctors adjust chemotherapy doses to maximize cancer-killing effects while minimizing long-term nerve damage that can affect quality of life.
