Your DNA may decide how well exercise and diet work for weight loss
NCT ID NCT07750197
First seen Aug 06, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a specific gene variant (MC4R rs17782313) and metabolic health status influence how men with obesity respond to a 12-week exercise and diet program. Forty men aged 18 to 59 with obesity will be classified as having metabolically healthy or unhealthy obesity, then all will receive the same supervised lifestyle intervention. Researchers will measure changes in body weight, body composition, and various health markers to see if responses differ based on genetics and metabolic phenotype.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A 12-week supervised program combining aerobic exercise, resistance training, and an individualized energy-controlled diet.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help tailor exercise and diet programs based on a person's genetic makeup and metabolic health, making weight loss efforts more effective.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The outcome depends on individual adherence and biological variability.
