New pill hopes to slow Alzheimer's decline

NCT ID NCT05564169

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This phase 3 trial tests whether adding masitinib, a daily pill that targets immune cells in the brain, to standard Alzheimer's medications can slow cognitive and functional decline. The study will enroll 600 people with mild Alzheimer's and measure changes in thinking skills and daily activities over 24 weeks. Masitinib aims to reduce brain inflammation, not cure the disease, so participants would still need ongoing treatment.
