Malaria shot may fight second deadly bug in kids

NCT ID NCT07416461

Summary

This study aims to learn if the R21 malaria vaccine, given to prevent malaria, might also reduce the risk of a dangerous bacterial infection called invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) in young children. Researchers will observe up to 10,000 children under age 5 in the Democratic Republic of Congo who come to clinics with fever. They will compare the vaccination status of children with and without the Salmonella infection to see if the vaccine offers this extra protection.
