Can a special diet prevent Crohn's relapse in kids?
NCT ID NCT02201693
First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study tested two nutrition-based maintenance therapies in 100 children (ages 6-18) with Crohn's disease who were already in remission after an initial course of exclusive enteral nutrition. One group received all their daily calories from a liquid formula (cyclic exclusive enteral nutrition), while the other got only 25% of their calories from the formula (supplementary enteral nutrition). The goal was to see which approach better prevented a relapse over 12 months. The trial is completed, and results will help guide long-term management of pediatric Crohn's disease.
