Could a simple mineral boost ovulation in PCOS?
NCT ID NCT07766590
First seen Aug 14, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026
Summary
This trial asks whether taking magnesium oxide for three months before the fertility drug letrozole can improve ovulation rates in women with insulin-resistant polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). About 60 subfertile women aged 18–35 will either receive magnesium oxide followed by letrozole, or letrozole alone. Researchers will track ovulation, mature follicle development, and endometrial thickness to see if the combination works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Magnesium oxide followed by letrozole
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to boost ovulation and pregnancy chances in women with insulin-resistant PCOS.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not hold up in larger groups. Magnesium may cause digestive side effects, and the added benefit over letrozole alone is unproven.
