First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at whether taking magnesium supplements can improve muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical performance in older adults with sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss). Researchers will enroll 352 people aged 70 and older from Portugal. Participants with low magnesium levels will receive either magnesium citrate or a placebo daily for 12 weeks. The goal is to see if magnesium can be a simple nutritional strategy to help maintain muscle health and independence.
