Scientists probe immune clues to save failing dental implants
NCT ID NCT07569432
First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study investigates how immune cells called macrophages behave in gum disease around dental implants (peri-implantitis). Researchers will measure various inflammatory markers in tissue samples from 120 participants, including smokers and non-smokers. The goal is to understand why some implants fail and how smoking worsens the condition.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could point toward better ways to diagnose or treat peri-implantitis by targeting specific immune cells.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It is small and early-stage, so findings may not lead to direct clinical changes.
