This study looked at whether computer alerts in medical records can help doctors follow best practices to prevent postoperative delirium (sudden confusion) in adults with cognitive impairment (like dementia) having surgery. Over 7,400 patients were included, and the approach used machine learning to identify high-risk patients and prompt care teams with specific recommendations. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
