New surgery aims to stop debilitating swelling for breast cancer survivors
NCT ID NCT03990610
Summary
This study is testing an investigational surgical procedure to see if it can prevent a painful and chronic side effect called lymphedema (arm swelling) in breast cancer patients. During standard breast reconstruction surgery, doctors will transfer healthy lymph nodes from another part of the body to the armpit area to replace those removed during cancer treatment. The goal is to see if this extra step lowers the long-term risk of developing swelling in the arm.
