Trainees test bedside ultrasound vs X-Ray for Post-Surgery lung check

NCT ID NCT07018856

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study explores whether medical trainees (residents and fellows) can learn to use lung ultrasound to detect a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) after heart surgery. About 120 adults who had heart surgery and are having chest tubes removed will get both a trainee-performed ultrasound and a standard chest X-ray. The results will be compared to see if ultrasound can be a safe, accurate alternative to X-ray, helping plan a larger future study.
