Ultrasound may spare lung transplant patients from risky biopsies

NCT ID NCT04582279

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tests if a safe, non-invasive lung ultrasound can detect rejection or infection in lung transplant recipients who feel fine. Currently, doctors must use a bronchoscopy with biopsy, which carries risks. If ultrasound works, it could reduce the need for these invasive procedures. The study enrolls 90 adult lung transplant patients with no symptoms and normal lung function.
