First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This early-phase study tests whether lungs from hepatitis C positive donors can be safely transplanted into hepatitis C negative patients awaiting a lung transplant. The approach uses a special lung preservation machine (EVLP) to possibly reduce the virus, and if infection occurs, standard antiviral drugs are given. The study follows 26 participants for up to 5 years to monitor safety and infection rates.
