Summary

This study compares the types of bacteria and inflammation in the lungs of smokers who have early-stage COPD versus those with normal lung function. Researchers will collect fluid from the lungs to analyze bacterial activity and immune responses. The goal is to better understand how lung bacteria may contribute to COPD development. No treatments or medications are being tested.
