First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tests a new imaging technique called electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to measure how air and blood flow in the lungs of children with acute breathing failure. The researchers will inject a small, weight-adjusted amount of salt solution to see if it safely and effectively shows lung function. The study involves 20 children under 12 years old who are on breathing machines in intensive care. The goal is to create a safe protocol for children, as no such method exists yet.
