New imaging tool could help monitor lung blood flow without radiation

NCT ID NCT07577700

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether a bedside imaging method called electrical impedance tomography (EIT) can measure blood flow in the lungs of people having surgery to remove old blood clots. The surgery, called pulmonary thromboendarterectomy, helps improve blood flow, but doctors need better ways to check how well the lungs are working before and after the procedure. About 36 adults with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension will be monitored with EIT, and the results will be compared with standard scans to see if EIT is a useful, radiation-free tool.
