Scientists hunt 'Avalanche' in lungs of critically ill patients

NCT ID NCT05224323

Summary

This study aims to better understand a specific pattern of airway opening, called an 'avalanche phenomenon,' in the lungs of patients with severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) who are on breathing machines. Researchers will observe 50 adult patients to see if this pattern exists and if it relates to patient outcomes. The goal is to gather knowledge that might help doctors adjust ventilator settings to reduce further lung injury in the future.
