Could a short burst of radiation help fight Alzheimer's?

NCT ID NCT03352258

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether a short course of low-dose radiation to the brain can reduce amyloid plaques, a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Twenty people with early Alzheimer's and positive amyloid scans participated. The main goals were to check safety and see if radiation could lower amyloid levels on PET scans, with cognitive tests as a secondary measure.
