Budget eye scanner could make retina checks affordable

NCT ID NCT05530460

First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tested a new, low-cost eye scanner (OCT device) to see if it can take clear pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Eleven healthy adults with good vision had their retinas scanned with both the low-cost device and a standard expensive machine. The goal was to compare image quality and see if the cheaper device could be a good alternative for eye exams.
