Less numbing, same pain relief: new hip surgery approach may keep legs stronger

NCT ID NCT06102811

First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a low-concentration numbing injection (fascia iliaca block) can control pain after total hip replacement as well as the standard higher-concentration injection, but with less leg muscle weakness. Sixty adults having hip replacement surgery received either the low or high concentration injection. The main goal was to see if the low-concentration version preserved quadriceps strength while still providing good pain relief and reducing the need for opioids.
