Could a common allergy pill ease bone pain in myeloma treatment?
NCT ID NCT04211259
First seen Jun 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This early trial is testing whether loratadine, better known as the allergy medicine Claritin, can reduce bone pain caused by a drug called G-CSF in people with multiple myeloma who are having their stem cells collected. The study will compare pain levels between those taking loratadine and those taking a placebo. If successful, it could provide a simple, low-cost way to manage a common side effect of stem cell mobilization.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
loratadine (Claritin)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, over-the-counter option to reduce bone pain during stem cell collection for multiple myeloma patients.
What could go wrong
This is a very early phase 1 trial with only 70 participants, so results may not be conclusive. The pain relief may be minimal or no better than placebo.
