Does an extra knee ligament procedure lead to arthritis later?

NCT ID NCT06885372

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study follows 510 people who had ACL knee reconstruction surgery, with or without an extra procedure called LET, about 10 years ago. Researchers want to see if adding LET increases the chance of developing knee osteoarthritis. Participants will get X-rays and answer questions about knee pain and function. The goal is to help doctors and patients weigh long-term risks when choosing treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Lateral Extra-Articular Tenodesis (LET) procedure

What this could lead to

If successful, this study will clarify whether adding LET to ACL reconstruction raises the risk of knee osteoarthritis, helping surgeons and patients make better-informed decisions.

What could go wrong

This is an observational follow-up, not a new treatment test. Results may show no clear link or may not apply to all patients. The study relies on imaging and patient reports, which can vary.
