Massive heart study aims to find best way to crack calcium in arteries

Summary
This study compares two methods to prepare severely calcified heart arteries before placing a stent: a shockwave device that breaks up calcium versus standard balloon treatment. It also compares two imaging techniques to guide the procedure. About 3,060 adults with coronary artery disease will be randomly assigned to one of four groups and followed for three years to see which approach reduces heart-related deaths, heart attacks, or the need for repeat procedures.
