New 3D lung mapping could replace needle punctures for small nodule surgery
NCT ID NCT07675889
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests a new method called Longitude-Latitude-Depth (LLD) localization, which uses 3D mapping from a CT scan to guide surgeons to small lung nodules without a needle puncture. It is being compared to the standard CT-guided needle localization in adults with single peripheral lung nodules 0.8-2 cm in size who are undergoing video-assisted surgery. The goal is to see if LLD is as accurate but causes fewer complications and speeds recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Longitude-Latitude-Depth (LLD) localization procedure
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a safer, less invasive way to locate small lung nodules during surgery, reducing pain and recovery time.
- What could go wrong
- This is a non-inferiority trial, so the new method may prove no better than the standard CT-guided approach. Results may not apply to larger or deeper nodules.
