Heat or no heat? major trial tests if zapping liver edges stops cancer return

NCT ID NCT05492136

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study is testing whether using a radiofrequency device to heat the edges of the liver after tumor removal can lower the chance of cancer coming back. About 720 adults with liver cancer (either from colorectal cancer or primary liver cancer) will be randomly assigned to receive either standard surgery or surgery plus this extra heat treatment. The goal is to see if this simple addition makes a real difference in preventing local recurrence.
