Weight loss surgery may improve liver scarring in obese patients

NCT ID NCT01469962

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study followed 255 people with severe obesity who had weight loss surgery. Researchers wanted to see if losing weight improved liver scarring (fibrosis) using simple blood tests instead of a liver biopsy. The main goal was to check how well two blood tests (Fibrotest and transthyretin) agreed with each other one year after surgery.
