Can a quick training let regular doctors read heart scans as well as experts?

NCT ID NCT03650660

Summary

This study tested whether gastroenterologists (liver doctors) with brief, standard training could perform and interpret basic heart ultrasound scans as accurately as intensive care specialists in patients hospitalized with advanced liver cirrhosis and fluid buildup. Researchers compared measurements of heart function taken by both types of doctors on the same patients. The goal was to see if this simpler approach could help manage these complex patients without always needing a specialist.
