First seen Apr 30, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looked at whether taking a daily dose of alpha lipoic acid, a natural supplement, can reduce the return of cystine kidney stones in people with cystinuria. Half of the 50 participants took 1200 mg of the supplement each day for three years, while the other half took a placebo. The main goal was to see if the supplement lowered the number of new stones or stone growth.
