First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests if shining a special light on the head (transcranial photobiomodulation) can improve brain function in children with sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease can reduce oxygen to the brain, causing thinking and learning problems. The study will randomly assign 60 children (ages 8-17) to receive either real light therapy or a placebo to see if it helps brain oxygen and cognitive performance.
