Could a laser helmet slow Alzheimer's? new trial tests light on the brain

NCT ID NCT04784416

Summary

This study is testing whether a non-invasive light therapy, called transcranial photobiomodulation, can help improve memory and thinking in older adults with early Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment. Participants will use a device that shines a safe, low-level laser on their forehead for about 11 minutes, three times a week for eight weeks. Researchers will compare the results to a sham (fake) treatment to see if the light therapy makes a real difference in cognitive tests and brain scans.
