New Light-Measuring tool may improve cancer treatment during surgery

This early-phase study tested a light-measuring system used during photodynamic therapy (PDT) for people with malignant mesothelioma, non-small cell lung cancer, or other chest cancers that have spread to the lining of the lungs. Nine participants received a light-activated drug called porfimer sodium during surgery, and doctors used the system to track how much laser light reached the tumor. The main goal was to check safety and see if better light measurement could help guide treatment decisions.
